Project Overview

The San Bao Temple in San Francisco, located in the Nob Hill district on Van Ness Avenue, serves as a modern hub for Buddhist culture and community. Designed by SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill), the six-story structure features a sanctuary, meditation hall, monk quarters, and community spaces. The building’s centerpiece is an atrium that fills the space with natural light and connects various functional areas, including an art gallery, library, tea house, and meeting rooms. This temple blends traditional Buddhist architectural elements with modern design and natural materials, creating a serene environment that encourages spiritual reflection and community connection.
